In the Indian state of Maharashtra, the politicians are literally golden boys — rocking the precious metal with such ubiquity and flair as to put rappers and pro athletes to shame. One pol wore more than 4 pounds of bling, while another flashed nearly 19 pounds. But none of those dudes can match Datta Phuge: He had a shirt (a shirt!) made of gold. The shirt weighs more than 7 pounds, and Phuge wears another 8 pounds of gold bracelets, necklaces and rings. “I am a Maharashtrian, a Maratha, hence I like to wear and display gold,” Phuge explained.
