PolitiFact's anointed 'Lie of the Year' was actually true, reports say

1/20/2013

PolitiFact loudly proclaimed its "Lie of the Year" to be Mitt Romney’s statement that Jeep would be moving production from the U.S. to China. Romney made the remark during a campaign stop in Ohio and criticized Obama for the move. In response, PolitiFact called Romney a liar and lambasted The Drudge Report for picking up the story when Jeep's parent company denied it. However, Reuters is reporting 100,000 Jeeps will be made in China during 2014. PolitiFact, instead of immediately apologizing, instead conceded the "Lie of the Year" was based in an actual "grain of truth" — then backtracked by saying Jeep building cars in China is a good thing because it’s for a Chinese market, so it basically doesn’t count for the spin they put on Romney's comments. [Source]
