I pray that the Pope retires to the Netherlands, so we can read about ex-Benedict's Holland days.

Funny reactions on Twitter fly amid pope's resignation

2/11/2013

With wavering public opinion, a recently launched Twitter account, and a long history of pope jokes among the American public, we suppose it was only a matter of time before news of Pope Benedict XVI's resignation turned the Twitter-sphere into a minefield of sarcasm and humor (see: "The Pope is resigning. He will soon be known as Ex-Benedict"). Though details as to why the Holy See is stepping down remain unclear (he's so far only said his age has eclipsed his "strength"), reactions are rampant. Sadness, admiration and anger have emerged, but playful jabs are by far the most widespread sentiment at the moment, and we can't say we don't love 'em — especially this one: "My nominations for Pope are as follows: 1. Beyonce. End list." [Source]
