The pope's retirement deal is likely way better than yours

2/28/2013

Don't pity the pope as he heads into retirement today: He's getting a pretty sweet deal. Not only will the soon-to-be pope emeritus be handed a monthly pension of about $3,300, he'll also have all his living expenses — spacious home, home-cooked meals, housekeeping staff — paid for by the church. Plus, he'll continue to enjoy the Vatican's generous private health-care coverage. Compare that to the average American retiree, who receives about $1,200 a month in Social Security and lives in fear of spiraling health-care costs not covered by Medicare. The pope's parachute looks downright golden, no matter what angle you holy see it from. [Source]
