That's how 106 baby chickens wound up at a D.C. post office after their intended journey to Alabama went haywire, and the original shipper feared they wouldn't survive a longer trip. Luckily, the mailmen had the address for the local Humane Society chapter, which put the chicks up for a few days before farming them out to a sanctuary in upstate New York.
