If you can't find Mecca, this prayer rug will find it for you
7/23/2012A simple, ancient practice now has a flashy, high-tech update. Every day, devout Muslims around the world turn toward Mecca to pray, but knowing which direction to turn in can be tricky if you're in unfamiliar surroundings. No one we know carries a compass around these days, except maybe for the guys on "The Big Bang Theory," so London-based designer Soner Ozenc came up with the literally bright idea to create a prayer rug with a built-in navigation system. When the rug, called El Seccade, faces Mecca, the pattern on it lights up. We hope it doesn't announce that it's "recalculating" when you turn in the wrong direction, like the bossy-pants GPS voice in your car.
Do you think anyone is going to use this thing?
