Priest's cheery Christmas message says women bring abuse on themselves

12/28/2012

What better way to celebrate Christmas than by reminding women that if they've been the victim of sexual or physical assault, they probably deserved it? That super cheerful message was posted by Father Piero Corsi on the door of his church in Italy earlier this week. (You just know Martin Luther is like, "STOP IT WITH THE DOOR STUFF.") There were 118  women killed in domestic incidents in Italy this year, and Corsi says the women must have "[provoked] the worst instincts" in men. "[Women] should search their consciences and ask: did we bring this on ourselves?" he wrote. Corsi sparked a wave of protests, and the region's bishop called his remarks "unacceptable and against the church’s common feeling on the matter." [Source]
