Bake sale, anyone? Gay-marriage opponents short on funds
1/30/2013The tide of money may have turned in the fierce battle over marriage rights. Same-sex-marriage opponents are finding it more difficult to raise money for legal and PR battles, while proponents are awash in cash, Reuters reports. ProtectMarriage.com, the once robustly funded group defending California's gay-marriage ban, has run a deficit in its legal fund for the last three years. The group was $2 million in debt at the end of 2011, and while it says it has made most of that up, it's still having a hard time meeting fundraising goals. In a recent email to donors, ProtectMarriage said that, unless donations pick up, it "could soon be forced over a financial cliff." [Source]
