Taking a new angle on staff T-shirts is not a good move for this woman
12/1/2012In journalism, you hear the phrase "what's your angle" a lot — usually said in a 1940s news reporter voice while tipping a fedora: "What’s your angle there, chief?" It refers, as you might guess, to how the slant on a story changes its meaning. For a literal interpretation, look no further than this picture, where the same shirt worn by two different pub staffers changes its meaning completely when the female bartender stands at a different angle than her co-worker. We're assuming this perfect illustration of the concept must be why this image is going viral, as it's probably being shared as a cautionary tale by journalism professors and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporters … or, you know, butt-fanciers.
