'Pumped Up Kicks' pulled off radio out of respect for Newtown victims
12/19/2012Have you ever really listened to the lyrics of the massively popular song "Pumped Up Kicks?" The song went viral in 2010 and arguably won Foster the People their 2011 Grammy, but the lyrics might surprise casual listeners. The chorus goes: "All the other kids with the pumped up kicks/ you better run, better run, outrun my gun. / All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,/ You better run, faster than my bullet." Foster the People said the weirdly violent lyrics were actually inspired by the tragic high school shooting at Columbine, and the song has now understandably been yanked from the radio out of respect for victims of the Newtown massacre.
