Puppy rescued from 200-foot quarry after a week missing
7/5/2012When Daisy, a 2-year-old pit bull mix disappeared, her owner canvassed the Gresham, Ore. neighborhood and posted fliers. Day after day went by but still no Daisy. Seven days later, she'd all but given up when the pup was spotted: She had fallen down a 200-foot mine quarry and caught a ledge about a quarter of the way down. During an incredible rescue Tuesday evening, a firefighter pulled the dog out of the quarry on a rope after rappelling down into the canyon on a harness. According to him, she didn't want to come to him at first until he offered her a smell of her owner's T-shirt. Once she caught a whiff of "mom," she was in his arms in an instant.
