10 pieces of radish art guaranteed to make you love your vegetables12/23/2012
While the rest of Mexico sells of its last batch of "I survived Doomsday" T-shirts, Oaxacans are gearing up for "The Night of the Radish People." No, it’s not a campy sequel to "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes." It's a 115-year-old Oaxacan Christmas tradition, a contest to see who can carve the best figure — religious or otherwise — out of big, heavy radishes. More than 100 contestants who had to sign up months in advance will compete on Sunday for the 15,000 peso prize, a little over $1,000. And, we suppose that in addition to Christmas Eve, Monday will also be the "The Day of the Radish salads." [Source]
