Rare baby white buffalo killed for its skin
5/5/2012A one-year-old, non-albino white buffalo, said to occur only once in 10 million births, has been killed and skinned by poachers in Hunt County, Texas. The animal, named Lightning Medicine Cloud, was believed to be sacred by the local Lakota Native American community, and the crime is being investigated with help from the Department of Homeland Security and the National Indian Council. The rare buffalo's shaken owner, who was out of town when the crime occurred, describe the animal as "the hope of all nations." In what may have been a related incident, the calf's mother was also found dead.
