Alleged rare-coin thief probably bought priciest pizza ever
9/22/2012To the discerning appraiser’s eye, the collection of rare coins stolen in Cowlitz County was worth $100,000. But to 19-year-old Dakoda Garren, who allegedly stole the coins, they were a ticket to a movie and some pizza. That’s right, like a swine happily gobbling up pearls, the alleged thief spent the coins — ranging in value from $5 to $65 to $18,500 apiece — at face value. Some have turned up at the movie theater and pizza parlor he visited, but if you live in the Vancouver, Wash., area, you might want to take a good long look at your change the next time you pay in cash: Most of the coins have not been recovered.
