Hungry? Try some savory rat meat at this London market
9/17/2012We hope you're not feeling hungry, because this may ruin your appetite. Unless, of course, you have a penchant for sewer-dwelling rodents. An investigation has found that vendors at one of London’s busiest markets have been illegally selling rat meat. Secret BBC cameras nabbed merchants at Ridley Road Market unloading what they called "shocking" amounts of the illicit bush meat, along with other nausea-inducing items such as "smokies," a dish made by charring sheep or goat with a blowtorch. Authorities say they've received few complaints, suggesting most buyers know what they're getting. The cane rats, known colloquially as "grass cutters," are believed to be largely imported from Ghana, where they're considered a delicacy. Well, it still beats caterpillar meat. [Source]
