Ex-New Orleans mayor Nagin indicted for alleged Mardi Graft festival
1/19/2013Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was indicted by a federal grand jury Friday on 21 counts of corrupt practices. The public face of New Orleans during its Katrina ordeal (and bestower of the description "chocolate city"), Nagin is accused of accepting more than $220,000 in cash bribes and other benefits, in exchange for post-hurricane city contracts. Two of the men who say they bribed the ex-mayor are co-operating with federal authorities. Nagin stepped down as mayor in 2010 after two terms in office. Now he describes himself as author, public speaker and green energy entrepreneur. He is presumably eager to avoid adding "convicted felon" to that list of achievements. [Source]
