Real deal hero saves little girl who fell three floors

7/17/2012

People throw the word "hero" around like it’s going out of style, but here’s one instance where the recipient is entirely deserving of that badge of honor. In this heart-stopping amateur footage, a 52-year-old Brooklyn man spots a young girl “teetering” on an air-conditioning unit three floors up. He positions himself under her with his arms out, and snatches her from the jaws of serious injury, if not death. “The only thing I could do was save her,” said Stephen St. Bernard, an MTA bus driver. “You know, she’s a little kid.” St. Bernard’s daughter, also seven, wasn’t surprised by her dad’s unequivocal heroism, telling reporters he carries her around all the time.
