Movie fans reward Hollywood with record box-office numbers in 2012
12/27/2012The new year might still be a few days away, but champagne corks have already been popped in Hollywood after a record-breaking 2012. Despite a poor summer, Hollywood is now scheduled to set an all-time box-office record due to the strong Christmas Day performance of musical "Les Miserables," the western "Django Unchained" and the fantasy "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." According to estimates of ticket sales, "Les Miserables" took in a weekday Christmas record of $18.2 million in the U.S. and Canada, which helped the movie industry pull in $10.8 billion in annual revenue, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com. So we can probably expect more sequels, 3-D blockbusters and silly Adam Sandler movies in 2013. [Source]
