Redditors raise $30K to give cancer patient dream trip
6/11/2012A man diagnosed with terminal, stage four kidney cancer is one step closer to realizing his dream of traveling the world thanks to an Oregon woman and the kindness of people on Reddit. When Jake Villanueva, 23, shared his diagnosis and his dream of traveling around the world on the site, he hoped others would respond with stories of their own. Instead, his post was noticed by Portland resident Lindsay Minar, who decided to try and make Villanueva's dream a reality. Seeing how hundreds had offered him places to stay should he be able to travel, Minar opened a bank account so that people could make donations to help Villanueva take that final trip. Within 24 hours, $30,000 had been donated. Health permitting, Jake plans to visit as many Reddit donors as possible.
