Report says Gingrich campaign is essentially broke

3/2/2012

Newt Gingrich's campaign is running on financial fumes, according to an in-depth piece from the Huffington Post. Financial reports from January show his campaign ended the month $1.73 million in debt and with $1.79 million on hand to cover expenses such as private jets and personal reimbursements. The report says that though Gingrich's personal finances are squared away, he's got three decades worth of bills and questionable expenses for several political and nonprofit groups that he's created, led and abandoned. Former colleagues told HuffPo that Gingrich burns through money and ignores warnings from his staff about the finances of his projects - which can't be good for someone who wants to control the country's finances.
