Research says Batman could fly, but landing would kill him

7/9/2012

If Batman were a real person, his cape would allow him to fly. Landing, though, would probably lead to a horrifyingly brutal death. That's the conclusion reached by a group of physics students at the University of Leicester in England. The students determined that the Dark Knight's cape, with a wingspan of 15-feet, would allow him to glide for 1,148-feet if he jumped off a 492-foot-tall building. His velocity would reach 68 mph, before decreasing to 50 as he neared the ground, still too fast for him not to suffer serious, probably fatal, injuries. The students' recommendation? A parachute.
