Retiring public worker admits he did nothing for 14 years
4/12/2012In terms of spectacularly public kiss-offs, it's not quite "Muppetgate," but one German public worker has admitted to basically doing nothing for the past 14 years. According to German newspaper Die Welt, a surveyor in a state office in the German town of Menden sent a mass e-mail on his retirement day telling colleagues he had been coasting for years. "Since 1998, I was only here but not there. So I'm going so well prepared to retire," the 65-year-old wrote, adding that he'd been paid €745,000 during his career for his laziness, while assailing city administrators for his boredom. Menden's mayor, as one might assume, was not happy, saying he felt a "considerable pinch of rage."
