African-American anchor fired for responding to ignorant Facebook post
12/12/2012Rhonda Lee, an African-American meteorologist at KTBS, a news station in Shreveport, La., has been fired for a comment she wrote on Facebook. She must've shared an X-rated cartoon or posted a dirty limerick, right? No, she just responded to a viewer who criticized "the black [lady's]" short hair, asking if she was "a cancer patient." Lee wrote, in part, "I'm sorry you don't like my ethnic hair. And no I don't have cancer … I’m very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display." She then thanked the man for his comment. But Lee's (former) bosses said her post violated their murky-sounding social media policy and was part of the reason for her termination. [Source]
