12/17/2012Richard Engel, NBC News’ chief foreign correspondent, is reportedly missing in Syria. Turkish media have been reporting that Engel and a Turkish colleague, Aziz Akyava, have not been heard from since Thursday. NBC News had asked American media outlets not to report on Engel's disappearance, and the blackout lasted about 24 hours before online sources picked up on the Turkish reports. NBC News has yet to issue a statement about Engel’s whereabouts. Engel has won numerous awards for his reports in war-torn countries throughout the Middle East. [Source]
