This 'starless night' is actually a photo of a city at war
11/17/2012Richard Engel, a reporter for NBC News, tweeted this almost entirely dark photo, which doesn't look that odd at first glance, until Engel revealed that it is not a "starless night" but actually a picture of Gaza, a city that's home to 400,000 people. The eerie photo was taken as Hamas militants in Gaza traded missiles with Israel's armed forces in the latest surge of violence in the region. In addition to the Gaza attack shown above, a bombing took place in Jerusalem on Friday as well. Jerusalem was deliberately not targeted in previous skirmishes; even Saddam Hussein avoided attacking it during the first Gulf War in 1991. With a ground war seeming increasingly likely, Engel might be tweeting similarly disconcerting pictures in the near future. [Source]
