BASE jumping + gymnastics = a very, very bad idea

10/12/2012

It's probably best to watch this video through the tiny slit between the fingers that are covering your eyes. Dr. Richard Henriksen, from Norway, loooves BASE jumping. He also loves gymnastics. So a local TV crew had the genius idea to set up a gymnast bar on top of a 3,000-foot-high cliff and let the good doctor use that to launch himself into oblivion for a killer dive. It doesn't go so well. After a few loops the bar breaks, which sends Henriksen plummeting over the cliff’s edge, where he narrowly misses cracking his head open on the cliff wall. The crew assumes the worst, but somehow, he manages to open his chute at the last minute and glide safely to the ground. Maybe BASE jumping and gymnastics shouldn't mix. Ever.
