Historians reconstruct Richard III's face into creepy plastic model

2/5/2013

The Richard III Society (yes, there is such a thing) has unveiled a facial reconstruction of the slain king based on his recently unearthed skull. Layers of muscle and skin were added by computer to a scan of the skull, then made into a 3D plastic model complete with wig and hat. The point of making a plastic head seems lost in all the press coverage, but the people involved all have Ph.D.s and work at universities, which apparently makes the whole project "science." Ordinary people will look at the head, notice his rouged cheeks, lumpy chin and glassy eyes, and just assume Richard III was a cross-dressing boxer who drank a lot. [Source]
