Rick Majerus was a rare man who cared more about the general well-being of his players than winning games. Rest in peace.

Everything about Rick Majerus was big. His heart. Loyalty to his friends. Basketball brain. He was born to teach hoops. We lost a great one.

Rick Majerus did not own a suit. Refused to ever wear one. I stole this idea from him. This incensed my wife and my mother. Thanx coach #RIP

College hoops coaching legend Rick Majerus dies at 64

12/2/2012

Rick Majerus, the legendary college basketball coach and mentor to student athletes from four different schools, has died at age 64. A coach with a reputation for being larger-than-life, intense and devoted to his players, Majerus enjoyed his greatest success with Utah, coaching them through 15 seasons and as far as the 1988 NCAA Championship game. Majerus, who had been suffering from cardiac problems, died of heart failure in a Los Angeles hospital, where he had reportedly been for several months. Tributes immediately poured in on Twitter and elsewhere, eulogizing an icon of college hoops. Missouri coach and friend Frank Haith simply called it ''a sad day for all of college basketball.''
