Paraplegic man survives three days and four miles in N.M. desert
10/24/2012Ricky Gilmore was determined not to die. The paraplegic hitchhiker, 49, of Shiprock, N.M., was stranded in the desert without his wheelchair, but managed to drag himself an incredible four miles over three days before being rescued. Gilmore says he was dumped in the desert by a couple who had picked him up while hitchhiking. Dragging himself along a road without his wheelchair, food or water, Gilmore says three vehicles, including one from the Native American Church, passed him without stopping. On the third day, Gilmore was picked up by a passer-by and is now recovering in the hospital with acute kidney failure, a sprained wrist and a blood infection. [Source]
