Riot cops called in to control sneakerheads

2/24/2012

Security guards at a mall in Orlando are probably feeling a little inadequate today after police in riot gear were called in to manage a crowd that gathered Thursday to buy glow-in-the-dark sneakers at midnight. The Orlando Sentinel says Foot Locker was to start selling Nike's $220 Foamposite One at the stroke of 12 in a promo capitalizing on this weekend's NBA All-Star game in Orlando. But as you know, people who line up hours ahead of time for glow-in-the-dark sneakers are likely to get a bit out of control, so more than 100 officers arrived, carrying riot shields, riding motorcycles and horses and hovering in a chopper overhead. The crisis was averted, unless you count the fact that the Foot Locker never opened.
