School robocall system goes haywire, wakes parents at 4 a.m.
1/31/2013Robocalls at any hour are annoying, but getting them at 4 a.m.? That's alarming and infuriating. Families in Florida's Broward County were awoken at all hours Tuesday after their school district's automated calling system went on the fritz, sending out robo calls to 73,000 homes between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4:40 a.m. The messages roused parents to deliver the urgent news that next month, the district would be hosting a fair for dropouts. "I was in a dead sleep!" parent Jamie Cohn, whose phone rang at 4 a.m., told the Sun Sentinel. "Any time you receive a phone call in the middle [of the] night, it makes your heart stop." The district has apologized for the glitch. [Source]
