Death row inmate says he's too fat to be executed

9/18/2012

Give him points for creativity, anyway. Ronald Post, a 480-pound Ohio man on death row, has asked for his execution in January by lethal injection to be delayed because his weight could contribute to a "torturous and lingering death." The 53-year-old killed a hotel clerk in 1983 during a robbery that netted him all of $100 and a TV. His lawyers contend that he's been working really, really hard at dropping the pounds and was even working out on an exercise bike until it broke beneath his weight. Unfortunately for the murderer, precedent is working against him: The too-obese argument was attempted by a more svelte killer, Richard Cooey, who was executed in 2008. Cooey only weighed 267 pounds.
