Last meal may be a long way off for obese killer on death row

12/15/2012

An obese man on death row may not be eating his final meal after all. Murderer Ronald Post had appealed for clemency to stop his January execution. One of many reasons he cited? His 450-plus pounds would make it hard to find a vein for a lethal injection. The Ohio state parole board didn't seem to bite on that issue, but now recommends commuting the sentence to life in prison because of concerns over Post’s legal representation at his first trial. Governor John Kasich will make a final decision on the appeal. While there are few decisions in politics weightier than matters of execution, this has to be the weightiest ever.
