Science guy solves the walk or run in the rain conundrum
7/20/2012There may be a withering drought where you are, but in other locales it is raining cats and dogs and people are wondering whether walking or running will keep them drier. According to physicist Franco Bocci, the answer to that age-old question is, unless you’re super skinny, make a dash for it. He admits that tailwinds might complicate the issue, explaining that the goof most scientists make when pondering the issue is assuming people are shaped like sheets of paper or rectangular boxes. In reality, he says it depends on a person's individual height-to-breadth ratio, with a few variances for wind direction and raindrop size. But in general Bocci advises we should simply run as fast as we can. [Source]
