Sadistic high school has students make paddles
3/24/2012Talk about whipped! At a Florida rural high school, students make paddles in shop class that they will be spanked with if they misbehave. The principal told StateImpact, an NPR affiliate, that having the students make the instruments is the only viable option. "You can't buy them anywhere. There's not a market for them, so yeah, students make it." No market? Really? More than 19 states allow corporal punishment in schools with a variety of acceptable paddle dimensions and materials. The ash wood paddles the students currently make at Holmes County are 16" long, 5" wide and half an inch thick, but we wouldn't blame them if they shave them a mite thinner than that.
Is having the students make the paddles used on them resourceful or cruel?
