Family awarded $63 million in Motrin allergy case after girl blinded

2/14/2013

It won't buy their daughter's sight back or undo her other health issues, but $63 million will probably go a long way for a Plymouth, Mass., family whose then-7-year-old daughter suffered a severe allergic reaction to Children's Motrin. The incident, which happened 10 years ago, has left Samantha Reckis legally blind and unable to walk 150 yards without becoming exhausted. A jury ordered Motrin maker Johnson & Johnson to cough up that staggering amount to the Reckis family after finding the company failed to warn families about the over-the-counter medicine's potential side effects. If upheld by a judge, the payout, with interest, could be worth $109 million. Which will buy a lot of Children's Tylenol. [Source]
