School reprimands girl for photo of military brother
8/20/2012Brianna Gentry is in a high-achieving club at her middle school -- she isn't used to being in trouble. So it came as a shock when the 13-year-old was yanked out of her class in San Bernardino, Calif., recently and reprimanded for "breaking the rules." Her supposed transgression? She'd displayed a photo of her military-policeman brother, along with one of her softball team, on her binder. No "added materials" are allowed in the talented and gifted program, the counselor said. After her mother wrote an angry letter, the school agreed to let Gentry keep the pic of her bro, as long as the softball one was removed. [Source]
