Nation, Internet observe moment of silence for Sandy Hook victims
12/21/2012Today has been designated as a day of mourning for Sandy Hook Elementary School. At the request of Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy, a nationwide moment of silence will be observed at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time, marking almost the exact moment that the shooting began one week ago. Malloy and Newtown city officials will gather on the Edmond Town Hall steps, and bells from a nearby church will ring 26 times, once for each lost life. Even the Internet will participate in the memorial: Hundreds of websites will go dark for one minute, with all content replaced by a green ribbon and the text "We are observing a National Moment of Silence for the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy."
