Want to play Santa Claus? You'd need 12 million employees to do it

12/20/2012

It's a good thing Santa Claus is powered entirely by Christmas magic, because the logistics of delivering an estimated 760 million pounds of presents in one night are unbelievable. Paul Tronsor from FedEx and Mike Mangeot from UPS — two guys who presumably know about delivering packages on time — estimate that Santa would require a workforce of 12 million elves scattered throughout 46 distribution centers. (That's 40 times the workforce that FedEx has.) According to their calculations, it would take 40,000 elves to deal with customs issues alone and another 67,100 to chart his sleigh's flight patterns. Be glad you don’t have to leave milk and cookies for everyone. [Source]
