Grinchy woman complains to cops about 'excessive' Salvation Army bell
11/23/2012It's supposed to be the season to be jolly, but a Portsmouth, N.H., branch of the Salvation Army has now vowed to tone down its jingle after a local woman called the cops to complain that the charity's ubiquitous bell-ringing was too intense for her sensitive eardrums. Sarah Hamilton-Parker, who works in a downtown Portsmouth jewelry store, says she has to wear earplugs at work to block out the sound. And it's not her first time complaining — this is the fourth year Hamilton-Parker has whined about the issue to the Salvation Army. Hamilton-Parker also researched the city's noise ordinance and claims the ringing bell qualifies as "excessive." The organization says it will look for a "softer bell." Bah hambug! [Source]
