These kids today – SAT scores are the lowest in 40 years

9/25/2012

Thanks to this year's crop of SAT takers, who earned the lowest reading scores since 1972, in the future, all written material will be reduced to 140 characters or less and words will be shortened to their easy-to-text shortcuts (OK, we made that last part up). The graduating seniors scored a sad average of 496 on the "reading" section, previously known as "verbal." That's one point lower than last year's geniuses and a whopping 34 points down from the bell-bottomed 1972 crowd. Embarrassed? Before you hang your head in shame, some blame the nosedive on the unprecedented numbers of kids taking the test this year, nearly half of whom were minorities and about a quarter of whom aren't native English speakers. Now you can hang your head. [Source]
