Saudi officials arrest dozens for 'plotting to celebrate Christmas'

12/28/2012

Christmas has come and gone this year, but Saudi Arabia would like to remind its citizens that it's not OK to celebrate the so-called most wonderful time of the year in this particular Middle Eastern country. Religious police stormed a house and arrested 41 people for "plotting to celebrate Christmas," according to a report from officials. The raid was at an Asian diplomat's house, where both Christians and Muslims alike were reportedly celebrating. It is unclear what punishment they are facing, or if they are still being detained. The Saudi government banned all public Christmas celebrations, but has not been consistent as to whether celebrations in private homes are against the law. [Source]
