Saudi woman's defiant 'nail polish' dispute goes viral

5/25/2012

A Saudi woman is gaining worldwide attention for refusing an order from a member of the nation's religious police (the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice) to leave a mall because she was wearing nail polish. The heated argument took place in the middle of Riyadh's Hayat Mall, and the woman can be heard arguing, "You are not responsible for me and have no right to ask me why I have manicured nails!" She says it's the commission's duty to advise people and finds two security guards to report the harassment. The commission has reportedly opened an investigation into the incident, but many around the Internet are impressed by the woman's bravery, with Twitter users like @NadiaE saying, "LOVE this girl!"
