School board embraces futility with proposed skinny jean ban
3/23/2012Administrators at one Connecticut school district have had it with students wearing skinny jeans and leggings -- and so the Meriden School Board of Education has proposed banning them and any other articles of clothing that "are too form fitting and distracting to other students." An existing dress code already prohibits clothing that would distract other students; these new rules would add "form-fitting" garments to that list and stipulate that "private body areas must not be evident or visible through clothing." But the students have an unlikely ally in this fight: teachers. They say it'll be too much work policing students and that the rule change would instill an "us versus them mentality."
