School misspells own name for nine humiliating years
5/9/2012Administrators at a Fort Worth elementary school are scrambling to change its stationery, Facebook page and welcome sign after discovering they've been spelling the school's name wrong -- for nearly nine years. When Sunrise Elementary School decided to honor its first teacher, Mary McMillan, by adding her name to the school's in 2003, it mistakenly inserted an extra "I." The school displayed "Sunrise-McMillian" for almost a decade, until a McMillan relative pointed out the error. One teacher has come up with a simple way to help remember the "new" spelling: "You know how we say there's no 'I' in team? Well, Sunrise-McMillan, we're a team, so there is no 'i' in the last part of McMillan."
