School stops dress-wearing guy from being prom queen
4/18/2012With a slinky black dress picked out and (apparently) the most votes in the can, River Flanary's dream of becoming prom queen seemed about to come true. But the teen has one major problem: he's a dude. The Tempe, Ariz. school district insists only female names can be written on the ballot - making him ineligible. Why doesn't he just run for prom king, you ask? He tells CBS5 that he's straight but wants to support the LGBT community - he's even customized his gown to ensure it meets school dress code requirements. The school's not budging right now, but River says whatever happens, he'll be wearing his dress to the prom on Saturday.
Should a male student be allowed to run for prom queen?
