Scientists aim to re-brew 1840s beer found in shipwreck
5/11/2012With their long, dark nights and consequent gloomy dispositions, few enjoy a drink more than the Finnish. And now, beer-loving scientists from that country's VTT technical research center are hoping to re-create a distinctive 1840s brew found in a shipwreck. While they say the contents of two beer bottles generally "had not stood the test of time well," a chemical analysis of the living bacteria still kicking around in the golden nectar could allow them to replicate the vintage recipe. According to the researchers, the amber ale retained hints of rose, almond and cloves.
What would you name this ancient brew?
