Watch this squid membrane go insane to Cypress Hill song

8/26/2012

The next time you’re at a concert, don’t hold up a lighter or an iPhone to show your support — lift up a squid. The cephalopod may be wet and sticky, but it does some pretty awesome things when set to music. This video, courtesy of Backyard Brains, shows what happens when Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Membrane” is played through a Woods Hole squid. The squid’s chromatophores, which control pigmentation in its skin and can change color rapidly, dance around to the rhythm in a hypnotic swirl of color. Who knew sea creatures could be so psychedelic?
