Court rules anti-whaling activists arrrrr officially 'pirates' (sorry)

2/27/2013

A federal court has classified the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as modern-day pirates, ordering them to leave Japanese whaling ships alone. An international treaty allows governments to kill whales for "research," but Sea Shepherd ships, sailing from Australia, often interfere with ships from Japan's Institute of Cetacean Research. Last week, two Sea Shepherd ships were damaged trying to prevent Japanese whaling ships from refueling. "We have yet to hurt anybody, we have yet to plunder any gold or do anything that would fit within the definition" of piracy, said Scott West, director of investigations for Sea Shepherd, whiffing the opportunity to use the word "booty." Bad pirate. [Source]
