Interior Dept. pissed away $222K in taxpayer cash on a fancy bathroom
1/16/2013Way to flush taxpayer money down the toilet. The government poured a whopping $222,000 — more than many American homes are worth — into a renovation of the Secretary of the Interior's 100-square-foot private office bathroom. The loo's luxurious fixtures included $26,000 custom cabinetry, $1,500 wall panels, a $689 Kohler faucet, a $65 "vintage tissue holder" and, for purposes that confound us, a $3,500 Sub-Zero fridge. Don't go shaking your fist at the current administration. The renovation — detailed in a 2009 audit now coming to light — was actually completed in 2007, when President George W. Bush's Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne was on the throne. [Source]
